  • Tier 4 (General) student visa durations commonly:

    • 2 years after completing an undergraduate or master's degree
    • 3 years for PhD graduates
  • During term time: up to 20 hours per week for degree-level students.
  • During term time: up to 10 hours per week for students on foundation or language centre courses.
  • During official holidays and breaks: students can work full-time (up to 40 hours per week).
  • Work placement: Hours spent on a work placement that is an integral part of the degree are separate from the 20-hour limit.

English Test Requirements

Common tests accepted by UK universities

IELTS

An overall score of 6.5 to 7.5 is common, with some programs requiring a higher score (e.g., 7.0) depending on the course.

TOEFL

Most universities require a score of 90 or higher. Some top programs might require 92 or even 100.

PTE / Duolingo

PTE: A common minimum score is 62.
Duolingo: Some universities may accept a Duolingo English Test score of around 110 for specific cases (e.g., pre-sessional courses), with required sub-scores.
